Self-Organization to criticality. A paradigm for complexity?

In this talk I will review basic concepts of what scale-invariance and criticality mean for both non-biotic and biological systems, and will discuss basic mechanisms for the self-organization to criticality as a paradigm for the emergence of complexity, especially in Biology, but not only. Finally, I will also discuss how possible criticality  relates to 1/f noise and the implications of this for time series analyses.
